I was looking for somthing to replace my broken FitBit to track my steps and sleep. I figured why not get one that does all that and more, especially if the price is about the same. So began my extensive search for a smart watch. I was frustrated that I could not get answers to my questions, so I hope to help someone else out there who is as confused as I was.
The first thing that bugged me was I was not able to go to a store and pick up a watch and try it on. They were all sealed in a vault on display so you couldn’t try one on to see how it felt. I wanted the largest display possible since I have trouble seeing things on my huge phone! I figured the ZenWatch 2 was the biggest, had great online reviews, and one of the best prices out there. The face is square so it looks a lot like an Apple watch even though this one works on androids.
I’ll start with the GOOD:It was under $150.00 It is huge. It has a mic and a speaker. It connected with my phone and I was up and running in just a few minutes. It tracked my sleep, my steps, sent me email notifications, facebook alerts, text messages and it even vibrated so I woulnd’t miss anything. I could change the watch face as many times as I wanted by just tapping on the options. Super cool, I thought.
But I couldn’t stop thinking about the much prettier round faced smart watches that I REALLY wanted. Yes, I was bedazzled by the Rose Gold Samsung Gear 2. it was a sight to behold. So I went on searching for features and benefits to see if it was worth paying almost double. It has a nifty rotating bezel that lets you fly through apps at the twirl of the dial, exta bonus points there – beauty and function, now we’re talkin’. It also has the option of swapping out the watchband which is great for the fickle minded like myself. I have a Samsung phone so the sales reps convinced me that this was the one to have, all the apps would be compatable, made sense. I was sold – until I realized that nobody had it in stock – WHATT??? Once I made up my mind I wanted it ASAP. They had black ones but not the oh so elegant Rose Gold that I fell in love with.
So what’s girl to do? I compromised and went with the middle ground, namely the ASUS ZenWatch 3. I ordered it online and it shipped out that day and I received it the follwing day. As soon as I opened the package I knew I had made the right decision. Even the packaging was elegant. My main concern was whether or not the display of the Zen3 was bigger than the Zen2 even though it’s round instead of square. Thankfully it is sooooo much better, resolution is amazing. The Z2 has a lot of wasted space whereas the 3 display goes edge to edge. I love the way the 3 snaps to its charger. I was able to lay it over a crystal perfume bottle as a stand, whereas the Zen2 cord barely stayed attached as it just had a tiny little magnetic set of prongs on the end of a cord. I especially love how it curls around my wrist instead of sitting weirdly like the Zen2 did – like a block sitting on your arm which kept sliding to the outside, not good.
The setup was a breeze, I basically had it up and running, connected to my phone and getting notifications from Facebook, Instagram, and Google Hangouts posts in about 15 minutes.
I feel a bit like Dick Tracey talking to my watch, but I’ll never miss another call or text because I can’t get to my phone at the bottom of my purse ever again! I give it five stars!!!!
